"We have set up Jessie's Trust in memory of my darling liver-spotted Dalmatian Jessie who passed away on 2nd February this year.
I have always been active on the animal charities front, but Jessie's passing engendered a powerful urge in me to do exponentially more, to make her life keep counting."

Who benefits?
Jessie's Trust is the flag under which fall all of Lavender & Sage's charitable doings and which will have a right to a percentage of the company's annual profits to give to charities of its choice.
The recipients of Jessie's Trust donations are smaller, locally operating animal charities around the UK which do not receive government funding.
Currently donations are being split between:
- Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (50%)
- Kit Wilson Trust (50%)
See below for a full description of what these lovely charities do for animals.
Our heartfelt thanks to all of you who participate in our efforts. With all the thousands upon thousands of animals who need our help, we can never do enough, can we? So we keep going and we never stop!
Jessie's Trust donation facility
As you know, our Jessie's Trust donation facility on our Check-out page went live on 1st November 2008. Since then, every three months we send off a cheque to WRAS and to the Kit Wilson Trust, each for 50% of the past quarter's donations.

Annual Jessie's Day Appeal
|
Launched in 2007, our annual 'Jessie's Day Appeal' takes place on 30th March, which was Jessie's birthday. It is our most important fundraising initiative of the year. On this day we donate the total gross profit of all sales placed to the type of charities described above. All we deduct from the turnover is the actual cost of the products to us, and the cost of shipping them to our customers.
Jessie's Day Appeal 2010
We had expected to be quieter than last year, but someone up there (I'm betting it was Jessie herself) decided to pull a nice big fluffy white bunny out of a hat. Our total gross profits on the day this year came to £1561.28. Together with additional donations made, this meant that we were able to send a cheque for £915.80 to both the Kit Wilson Trust and WRAS on 14th June 2010! Thank you once again to those of you lovely people who participated this year. Some of you make a point of it every every, and for this I am so very grateful. Love & light to you all.

Jessie's Room at the WRAS
Jessie's Trust sponsors a recovery room for birds at a local Wildlife hospital unit run by the WRAS (Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service), called 'Jessie's Room', as well as one of the charity's ambulances (see below).

Jessie's Trust sponsors one of WRAS's ambulances. It's the one they use when film crews are there, so be prepared to see Jessie's face on a television screen near you!

About Jessie's Trust's chosen charities
The East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All rescuers are volunteers and help deal with 2,000 to 3,000 incidents annually across the county.
The charity has four veterinary ambulances and run a casualty care centre at Horsebridge Vets near Hailsham. Its current 'release-into-the-wild' success rate is a staggering 74%, way above the national average. WRAS volunteers deal with up to 45 call-outs a day and drive over 35,000 miles a year.
Funded entirely by donations, each year the charity's veterinary bills are over £13,000 and the cost of keeping the ambulances insured, fuelled and maintained come to £12,500 per year.

At its Rescue Centre near Uckfield, East Sussex, the Kit Wilson Trust for Animal Welfare cares for animals from a wide range of backgrounds. Many are unwanted, ill-treated or abandoned. The Trust has a large number of cats and dogs at the Centre awaiting new homes, and each day can bring more animals needing attention.
The Rescue Centre has also become a permanent home to horses, donkeys, cats, goats, rodents and a variety of birds. And, last but definitely not least, a beautiful pig called Thistle.
All of us at Lavender & Sage spent a day at the Centre, taking dogs out for long walks. We feel the Centre seems somehow contained in a love-bubble and is a place of peace and enchantment. The Kit Wilson Trust receives no local authority, government or lottery funding. For more information please visit www.kitwilsontrust.org.uk.

The Animal Blood Register was set up to provide veterinary practices with the resources that they require in order to provide the highest standard of care possible.
Every day pets need blood transfusions, but most of us probably don't realise that there is no such thing as an animal bloodbank. However, for many procedures a transfusion is a clinical necessity and without animal blood donors veterinary surgeons could not undertake important and often life-saving operations.
Lavender & Sage is an official sponsor of the Animal Blood Register. We supply the prizes for their monthly draws, which are helping to get more vets signed up. For more information please visit www.animalbloodregister.com. |
